Description

“…I miss a lot of people. Where did things go wrong...? What happened? I know good things are still here, I know they are; I just wish I could find them again. I wish that I could somehow prove that I’m not just deluding myself, I want to believe that this is happening for a reason, that we’re not alone in all this...It’s as if we go through life with this blind faith in something better and I used to believe it, but all of this war and death, it makes me so afraid of what comes next. I want to believe in God, but… every time I try, I can only see my dead parents. I can only feel my brother die in my arms and I can only remember the day when my best friend was shot through the head and his sister raped for a mistake that I made- something as small as sewing the star on the wrong side of my shirt! I want to know how all of this could have possibly happened for a reason! I don’t care about religion any more- I just want to know that there’s someone who’s listening, someone who will be waiting for me when it’s time for me to go.” [The Paper Stars, pg. 265]

This shook me to my very core. It's simply wordless in its effect, in the very best way wordless can be. Given the apparent "muse" of the insert, I am shocked on how the meaning is only intensified with the art itself. From the wounds, clothing, type-writer font, pale background, blood splatters around the work and the tattooed in tags on the wrist, it's simply amazing how you were able to visually give the meaning before anyone had a second to read the insert. I am very interested in this and from the amount of good comments that you have gotten, I would not be surprised that others are just as shaken as I am. Well done.
